Ballad
Ballad is a music voting app designed to engage users in curating public playlists, enhancing the going-out experience at small bars. With a retro jukebox aesthetic and quirky animations reminiscent of bar staples, Ballad captures the essence of how music was enjoyed before streaming services. Users can sift through virtual vinyl records to vote on songs, fostering community interaction within the bar.
The design features bouncy iconography across three pages: Rewards, What’s Playing?, and Voting. Navigation is conveniently located at the top dome of the jukebox, allowing users to swipe between pages, while animations reside at the bottom.
The name "Ballad" cleverly references the voting term "ballot." A clean, bold logo complements dense, retro-inspired typography (Kabel) to highlight the vibrant illustrations. The design embraces an analog feel, with chunky, three-dimensional buttons reflecting the tactile quality of vintage equipment.
Ballad also extends beyond the app with a bright neon sign in bars: orange indicates voting is closed, while purple signals it's open. This feature strengthens the brand and encourages customer participation in the voting experience.
